Just the thought of
motherhood can bring elation and euphoria to
an expectant woman. Motherhood is probably
the most powerful experience a woman will go
through. It has its joys but it also has its
moments of desolation. One day, you are
charmed with this little human being in your
arms; and on other days, you wish someone
would come to the rescue. Every new mom goes
through periods of delight and periods of
despair. I know I have! On many occasions, I
wish I had a tool that would help me in my
daily life with my newborn son. I needed
some kind of diary that would allow me to
write down every detail. All the diaries I
came across had the usual patterns, such as
birth details, first day at home, first
month, first smile, first coo, first
picture, first birthday and blank pages to
jot down ideas and memories, etc... These
diaries are really nice to have as they make
beautiful keepsakes for your child. Imagine
when your child is older, you can show
him/her the diary you have spent so much
time, making. Imagine the sparkle in their
eyes when they look at each and every page
of their childhood. That being said, I
wanted more from a diary. I needed some
format that would allow me to keep daily
notes about my child.
Before my son was born, I
decided to breastfeed. When Karl was born,
he did not know how to latch on and I was
not able to help him much. Everything was so
new to me and, honestly, overwhelming. A
lactation specialist helped us at the
hospital but that was not enough. A few days
after Karl was born, we were due for our
first visit at the pediatrician’s office.
The doctor suggested I consult with a
lactation specialist because Karl had lost
some weight. After a couple of visits to the
lactation specialist, Karl was latching on
much better and I was mastering the art of
breastfeeding. One tool that helped us go
through the rough start with breastfeeding
was a sheet of paper that the lactation
specialist gave me. It was a daily
breastfeeding diary. That diary was my
treasure. I could not do without it. I kept
photocopying it and using it daily until I
realized Karl had already turned one year
old and I was still using it. Now that Karl
was one, I did not need all the information
that was on that breastfeeding diary. I
needed another one. So I decided to make my
own form and kept altering the form as Karl
was getting older and his needs were
changing. He’s almost 3 years old now and I
am still using a daily diary. The daily
diary helped me in so many ways. The purpose
of
A Baby’s
Diary
is to help YOU go through the
art of being a mom (or a dad, if dad is
taking care of the child), the way it helped
me.
